"The afternoon train slowed and stopped at a small, almost deserted station. Grey wooden structure, tired clock, hot drinks vending machine humming low in the silence. There was no reason to stop here.

The bus schedule on his phone was predictable. Only four trips a day. The next one to town—too early.

He pocketed the device, adjusted his bag strap, and decided to walk. Just 5 kilometers. But a gentle, continuous climb—the kind of incline that would irritate a cyclist.

The pavement dissolved quickly into countryside, snaking between rice paddies. The view shifted with every turn. From above, it would have looked like a single dark line drawn across a board of gold and green..."

「午後の列車が速度を落とし、ほとんど無人の小さな駅に停まった。灰色に褪せた木の駅舎、疲れた時計、静寂の中で低く唸るホットドリンクの自販機。足を止める理由はどこにもない。
